Food Parcels for Homeless Young People
Early in my youth work career I was lucky enough to be part of a Youth Action Team promoting volunteering among young people for Young Bristol.
It was while I was representing the YAT I would meet the regional head for Fareshare. I approached her and said I also volunteered for a centre for the young and homeless which would benefit from her food parcel service.
A long-running partnership was established between Safeplace (later Kids Company Bristol) and Fareshare-West.

Events and Activities
In my roles volunteering for Safeplace, Young Bristol and Kids Company Bristol, I collaborated with service management and partners to conceive of and/or produce very many events and activities. Below are a few examples:
- Kids Company Bristol Urban Academy Launch
- A talent show with ITV Fixers (Also Co-hosted)
- An awards ceremony for young volunteers in Bristol (which I also co-hosted)
- Multiple promotional events for volunteers
- Gorge Scrambling and Archery activities for homeless young people
Speeches/Talks
On my journey through youth work I've also had the privilege of working across a number of years with the Prince's Trust. This began when I achieved a Level 1 qualification in youth work on their 'Get Into Youth Work' Programme.
I would then follow this by becoming an ambassador for the Prince's Trust where I would have the opportunity to travel the country and speak in front of large audiences about my journey through life up to that point. These audiences included a conference of managers from all regions of TMLewin operations, in London; and a large Capgemini fundraising event. I believe this is what allowed me to become a more open person (maybe too open).
It was during this time I also had the opportunity to meet Prince Charles at St James Palace.

Endorsements
Steve's contribution to youth work in Bristol is dynamic and creative. His skills stem from personal experience, which has influenced his ability to really know what young people need. Steve has great skill in linking young people with creative opportunities and thinking strategically about youth service delivery in Bristol.

Young Persons testimony of my work with them
Steve demonstrated excellent communication skills and an inclusive approach, working hard to support young people to participate, helping to motivate and inspire them. His adaptable style was particularly evident and the young people responded well to him, he used humour, appropriate language and took care to use many of their words showing value for their contribution. He was also assertive where necessary, when needing to reinforce group rules and to challenge behaviour.
